Home and navigation
The workspace opens on Home, at /web/ or /web/lobby/, when the new workspace is enabled for your
account. Home is where you ask Nash, search for anything you can open, and pick up recent work.
On a return visit, Home starts with its remembered layout while current settings and content load. Your role’s default landing page applies when you first enter the workspace; selecting Home later keeps you on Home. Links to a Nash conversation keep their conversation while the workspace checks whether Nash is available.
The bell beside Nash and your account menu opens your personal notification inbox. Its badge refreshes as you navigate, return to the tab or open the bell.
Search and ask
Section titled “Search and ask”The box at the top of Home searches as you type. Results are grouped as:
- Analytics — workbooks and apps.
- Business data — pinned business questions and semantic layers.
- Chats — your Nash conversations.
As you type, the first row, Ask Nash, is highlighted: press Enter to send what you typed to Nash. To open a result instead, select it, or move down to it with the arrow keys and press Enter. Home then becomes the conversation; close it to return. Business questions are found only once pinned.
Under the words in the box you can attach a file, choose what the question is about, choose where the chat is kept, and pick the model.
Where Nash is not available for your tenant, the box only finds things: there is no Ask Nash row, and Enter opens the first result.
Pick up where you left off
Section titled “Pick up where you left off”Below the search box, each list appears only when it has something to show:
| List | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Continue building | Your draft workbooks, with Create for a new one. Shown if you can edit content. |
| Continue | Workbooks and apps, most recently changed first, leaving out drafts already in Continue building. |
| Recent chats | Your latest Nash conversations; All chats opens the full history. |
| Recently published | Published workbooks and apps, most recently published first. |
| Upcoming | Your next scheduled recurring Nash tasks, when available to you. |
Continue building and Continue each show one row, as many as fit the window; View all opens the rest. If a list cannot load, it says so in its place; select Try again to read it again.
Owners and administrators also see Set up your workspace, a checklist of first steps. The next step to take is highlighted, and finished steps are ticked.
In a conversation, a column beside the chat shows Context: what Nash answers about in this chat. It is the same list the context button under the question box opens, with tabs for Analytics, Semantic Layers and Data Connections, a search box, and a tick on the current choice. Picking an item there sets the context for the chat, and the button under the question box changes to match; clearing that button removes the tick. You cannot change the context while Nash is answering. Once Nash has answered, the column also suggests next steps. While Nash is working out its first answer or waiting for you to answer a question of its own, there are no next steps to take yet. The column is hidden when the window is too narrow.
The left rail
Section titled “The left rail”| Item | Opens | Shown to |
|---|---|---|
| Home | Home: search and ask, and your recent work | Everyone |
| Analytics | The Library of everything you can open, with Pinboards and Data Explorer | Everyone |
| Reporting | Scheduled reports and subscriptions | When reporting is enabled |
| Workflows | Workflow schedules | Creators, administrators and owners |
| Data & AI | Semantic layers, data connections and AI providers | Creators, administrators and owners |
| Data | Your semantic layers where your tenant lets you own them; otherwise Data Explorer | Viewers |
| Invite users | The invitation panel | People allowed to invite |
| Administration | Tenant administration | Administrators and owners |
Designers can create and edit workbooks through Analytics. Their rail does not show Data & AI, Data or Workflows, and bookmarked links to these management pages return to Home. Data Explorer remains available under Analytics. Viewers who open a bookmarked Workflows link also return to Home.
On every workspace page, including Home, the Nash button at the top right (the wand icon beside your account menu) opens Nash in a panel on the right of the page; select it again to close the panel. The button is unavailable when AI is off for your tenant. Select Show chats in the panel to open your conversation history. In the panel, Recents starts collapsed each time you open Nash, so the conversation keeps the room; select Recents to expand the list. On Home it starts expanded. In a narrow window the panel stays on the right edge, and when it is too narrow for your chats beside the conversation, the chats move above it. With the panel open, Open full Nash moves the same conversation to Home.
On Home, Back to the side panel (beside the conversation’s close button) returns the conversation to the panel. It takes you back to the page you opened it full page from, with the panel open on the same conversation, scrolled to where you were reading, and with the same context chip selected. A context chip that came from the page itself follows that page again; one you picked yourself stays picked. A conversation you opened on Home directly goes back to the panel beside Home. A reply Nash is still writing carries on through either move.
Nash stays open as you move between workspace pages, on the same conversation, until you close it. A conversation open on Home moves into the panel when you go to another page, and stays in the panel when you come back to Home or select Home in the rail. Asking from Home, or opening a chat there, with the panel open puts the conversation on Home in place of the panel. While Home itself shows the conversation, the Nash button closes it, as does the conversation’s own close button.
Welcome tour
Section titled “Welcome tour”For your first 48 hours after signing up, Home opens with a welcome from Nash, once. It shows how a data connection, a semantic layer, Data Apps and the Data Explorer fit together, and links to the first pages of these docs. Show me around then steps through the rail and the buttons beside it, lighting up one at a time while Nash says what each is for. Use Next, Back or the arrow keys, or choose Maybe later or Skip tour, and the tour does not return on its own.
The tour is for anyone who can edit content: designers, creators, administrators and owners. Viewers do not get it. Each person is shown only the controls they have, so, for example, Invite users is in an administrator’s tour and not a designer’s. A control that is switched off for your workspace is left out too.
To see it again, add ?tour=1 to the address of Home. It then opens at any time, whether or not you
have seen it. Whether it has been shown is remembered in your browser, so a second browser shows it
again during your first 48 hours.
Analytics
Section titled “Analytics”Analytics opens on the Library: every workbook, Data App and pinned business question you can
open, in one list, each marked with what it is. It is the one list of workbooks and Data Apps. Links to
the earlier Workbooks and Apps pages, /web/workbooks/ and /web/apps/, open it, with the item,
collection or tab they named.
Show the list as a table or as cards. The table’s columns are Name, Published Version, Semantic layer and Last updated, the same for every kind; a column with nothing to show for an item shows a dash. A wide window adds Creator, who made the item. As the window narrows, Creator is hidden first, then Semantic layer, then Published Version. Select a column heading to sort by it.
Your sort order is remembered in this browser when browser storage is available, including supported choices from the earlier lobby. If a saved sort is unsupported, the Library shows Newest first and keeps the saved choice until you select a sort from the dropdown or a column heading. Reloading then applies your new choice.
Every row is laid out the same way, whatever it holds:
- Name carries the item’s type icon and its collections, with its description, or No description, underneath.
- Published Version shows the day the live version was published, or the version’s name where a workbook version has one. Hover over it for both, and a Data App’s version number. Otherwise it says Draft or Unpublished.
- Last updated shows a date, with the person who made that change underneath where Astrato records it.
- At the end of the row are View for what is published, Edit where you can edit it, the star for a workbook, and a menu with the rest, including Properties. A row without one of these leaves its place empty, so the rest stay in their columns. A Data App’s View shows its address on hover.
Tabs above the list narrow it by status:
| Tab | Shows |
|---|---|
| All | Everything, except removed workbooks |
| Published | Workbooks with a published version, and published Data Apps |
| Unpublished | Workbooks with nothing published, and Data Apps that are not published |
| Drafts | Your own workbook drafts, and Data Apps you have built in the App Builder but not yet published |
| Starred | Workbooks you have starred |
| Removed | Workbooks that have been removed |
Your chosen status tab is remembered in this browser when browser storage is available, including a choice made in the earlier lobby. Reloading the Library opens that tab again. A link that names a status tab takes precedence; a link to a workbook’s or Data App’s properties opens All.
A removed workbook opens nothing and can’t be ticked for a bulk action; selecting it shows its properties. Its menu offers Properties and, if you could have removed it, Restore, which returns it to the list unpublished, with its drafts.
Pinned business questions appear under the All status tab only. They have no change date, so they come after dated items when the list is sorted by date.
Search looks in names, descriptions, versions, semantic layers, dates and authors. You can also filter by type, creator and data connection. The collections down the side narrow the list to one collection; if you can edit a collection, choosing it also opens its properties, and + makes a new one. Tick workbooks and Data Apps with their checkboxes to remove several at once; Star and Unstar act on the workbooks among them. A Data App you are still building in the App Builder and have not yet published, and a pinned question, cannot be ticked: their checkboxes are greyed out. A long list is drawn 60 items at a time. “Showing 60 of 150” below it says how many are drawn. Scrolling to the end draws the next ones, as does Show 60 more. Search, filters and sorting cover the whole list, not only what is drawn, but the checkbox at the top ticks only the items drawn so far. Create starts a Data App or a workbook, and its Pinboard entry opens Add pin on your pinboard. Under Import, it imports a workbook.
The tabs across the top are the same for every role: Library, Pinboards and Data Explorer. Pinboards appears when it is enabled for your tenant. What you can do on each page, such as editing or deleting, still depends on your permissions. The rail item stays Analytics: it is the section that holds all three tabs, and it opens on the Library.
Troubleshooting requests
Section titled “Troubleshooting requests”When a request fails, use Copy details in its error notice to include the available diagnostics in a support request. A Correlation ID identifies the failed server request. Browser validation and network failures that never reach the server may have no correlation ID. If Try again is offered, retry after checking your connection and sign-in.
Data Explorer
Section titled “Data Explorer”Semantic-layer links in Home search and in workbook, Data App and pin properties check your access before opening the layer. If you have edit access to that layer, including a resource-level grant as a Viewer, it opens in the editor. Otherwise it opens in Data Explorer.
Data Explorer lists the semantic layers you can explore. Choose one to explore its governed data, view only, without opening a workbook. The list has the same search, filters and Contents column as the Semantic Layers page.
The explorer reads the published layer. A layer with no tables, fields, dimensions or measures published has nothing to explore. It is still listed, greyed out, and selecting it does nothing. Under its name it says Nothing to explore yet: add tables in the editor, or Nothing to explore yet: publish the layer where your draft already has tables that are not published. If you can edit the layer, its Edit button opens it in the editor. Business questions alone do not count: each one asks about fields the layer would have to hold.
Contents counts your draft where you have one. So it can read Empty for a layer that still explores what was published, or show tables for one that cannot be explored until it is published.
On the Semantic Layers page, such a layer still opens in the editor, but its Explore button and the Explore entry in its menu are disabled; hover over the button to see why. A link straight to its explorer says that the layer is empty, with Open the semantic layer for people who can edit it.
