Astrato terminology
Astrato gives you three ways to create experiences with governed data. Choose based on how you want to build the experience and where you want it to run.
| Option | Choose it when |
|---|---|
| Workbook | You want to build interactive analytics in the Astrato Workbook Editor. |
| Data App hosted by Astrato | You want to build by asking or with code, and have Astrato host it. |
| Externally hosted Data App | You want a Data App you host and operate yourself. |
Workbook
Section titled “Workbook”Choose a Workbook when you want to explore data and create dashboards in a visual editor. You build it from sheets, charts, actions and other interactive elements, all within Astrato. You can also use Nash, the AI agent in the Workbook Editor, to help explore data and create the dashboard.
Data App hosted by Astrato
Section titled “Data App hosted by Astrato”Choose a Data App hosted by Astrato when you want a tailored interface or interactions beyond the Workbook Editor, built by asking rather than by dragging. Build it with the App Builder, with your own AI coding assistant, or with familiar web development tools and the Astrato CLI. It uses the same semantic layer and governed data as a Workbook, and Astrato hosts it. Publishing is in preview and needs an enabled environment.
Externally hosted Data App
Section titled “Externally hosted Data App”Choose an externally hosted Data App when you want to host and operate it yourself, for example inside a website, product or application. You control its hosting, deployment and how its users access Astrato. Build it with your own AI coding assistant or your preferred tools. Astrato provides the SDK, visualizations and governed data access.
Choosing a workflow
Section titled “Choosing a workflow”- Build visually, with drag and drop, in Astrato → create a Workbook.
- Build by asking, with code behind the scenes, for Astrato-managed hosting → create a Data App hosted by Astrato.
- Build a Data App that you host yourself → build an externally hosted Data App.
